Dr Jayaraman Sivakumar (Siva) is working at the GM Technical Centre, Bengaluru, as Director of Global Propulsion Systems. He is managing a large team of engineers working on Engines, Transmissions, Electrification and Fuel Cells for GM’s global programmes.
An alumnus of the College of Engineering, Guindy, Chennai, he started his career as a Researcher at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, India. He received his PhD in Structural Mechanics from the Texas Tech University, USA, and started working at General Motors, Flint, Michigan, USA.

Analysis capabilities have improved tremendously over the past several decades and have now become an integral part of product design and manufacturing at General Motors. This has been primarily due to the phenomenal improvements made in the IT industry and by the software vendors. This presentation will highlight the role of IT and Software in the development of a propulsion system from inception to production. A journey of improvements carried out over the past decades and where the industry is headed to be discussed.
