ASIAN POWERTRAIN CONFERENCE, The Hyatt, Chennai, 15 – 16 November 2018

Dr V Sumantran, Chairman, Celeris Technologies and co-author of the book “Faster, Smarter, Greener: the Future of the Car and Urban Mobility” will deliver the Keynote address at the Asian Powertrain Conference. He will speak on “Future Powertrains – Challenges and Opportunities.”

He will dwell up on the auto industry that is facing fundamental transformation as pressures emanating from accelerated urbanisation, heightened concern for air quality and carbon emissions, and renewed tensions relating to supplies of fossil fuels, which are converging into a giant tsunami.

Dr Saravanan Muthiah, Head – Advanced Technology function for both Auto and Farm Sectors at M&M will talk on the Future of IC Engines. According to him, Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) have held their sway for over a century. However, with increasing regulatory focus on pollutant emissions and the desire to look for an alternative to fossil fuels that are limited in availability as a resource, ICE engines (especially diesels) are facing a lot of pressure. All over the world, regulatory authorities are tightening the emission norms and local authorities in many cities are either implementing or contemplating regulated entry of vehicles as a means of mitigating pollution and traffic congestion.
